Soldier's Pea Soup

Split Yellow Pea soup with extra ham,

A hearty, traditional Swedish meal on Thursdays, dating to before the Protestant Reformation when fasting was required on Fridays. Still served in the Swedish Army, hence the name, and in school lunch rooms and private homes.  Garnished with timjam och mejram (thyme and marjoram) and a dollop of coarse Swedish mustard; served with toasted tunnbröd (flat bread).  As a supper, this would be followed by Pannkakkor, Swedish crepes with whipped cream and preserves.

From Sverige Online and IKEA.
